The Miraculous Rise of Rugby in Colombia

Rugby is a young sport in Colombia. When compared to Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela it is simply illogical as to how Los Tucanes have cone toe be ranked above them all. Impressive performances in the Women’s game have seen Colombia involved in the Youth Olympic Games and Las Tucanes even playing in the Olympic Games.

The miraculous rise of rugby in Colombia has taken place within a single generation. The heartland is Medellín though there are players coming through the ranks far and wide. In Andrés Zafra, Colombia has a player in the Top 14 and one from Los Carboneros club in Cúcuta.

The rise of Colombian rugby has been tackled by World Rugby. In a new 4 minute video players and officials from both the men’s and women’s rugby comment on the changes. The future is bright for rugby in Colombia.
