Maher and Kelter named in Glendale Dream Team

Two members of the USA Women’s Eagles side that finished in second place at the Glendale Sevens over the weekend have been selected to the official HSBC Dream Team for the tournament. Playing both in the forwards and in the midfield, Ilona Maher enjoyed a breakthrough tournament that included a hat-trick against defending series champions Australia in the Quarter Final. Also included is playmaker Alev Kelter who was at her best throughout to inspire the Eagles to the Cup Final.

Russia forward Kristina Seredina earned selection as her country’s leading try scorer, while Montserrat Amédée’s creativity led France to the Bronze Final. A trio of New Zealanders made the cut with captain Sarah Goss rounding out the forwards, and Kelly Brazier named in the backs alongside flyer Michaela Blyde. Strangely left in the cold is the tournament’s top try-scorer Portia Woodman, who notched a hat-trick in the Cup Final against the USA.
