New squad, new coach for Women’s Eagles 7s

The USA Women’s Eagles Sevens have named their first squad of the 2018-19 HSBC Sevens Series and also their new coach. Chris Brown has been appointed full-time Head Coach of the team having taken over in an interim capacity from departed Richie Walker in August. Brown has been an omnipresent figure in USA rugby since 2014 when he joined as an assistant to Men’s Eagles coach Mike Friday.

It will be a particularly memorable occasion for Brown’s first tournament in charge as his squad will look to start their season on a high in the return of the USA stop on the women’s circuit. For the first time it will be Glendale’s Infinity Park that plays host, with previous incarnations taking place in Houston, Atlanta, and Las Vegas.

Eight members of the team that finished 6th at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco will suit up for Glendale. Among them are Lauren Doyle and Nicole Heavirland who have been named co-captains for the new season.

There are three debutantes in the side – Alena Olsen, Stephanie Rovetti, and Lauren Thunen will all make their HSBC Series debuts. A fourth, Kacey McCravey, has been named as the 13th player.

The Women’s Eagles will play England, China, and New Zealand in Pool B. All matches will be streamed live by FloRugby in the USA and World Rugby for those located elsewhere.
