Magleby set to become Free Jacks CEO

USA Rugby will bid farewell to one of its most influential members at the end of the year. Alex Magleby will step down from his role as High Performance Manager to take over as Chief Executive Officer of the New England Free Jacks, the new professional franchise based in Boston that will join Major League Rugby officially in 2020.

Magleby has been a name synonymous with USA Rugby for nearly two decades. As a player he was a four-year starter at Dartmouth College before achieving international honors. He won four test caps at flanker and also represented his country at sevens, leading the Eagles to the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong.

After taking over as Head Coach at Dartmouth in 2001 he would lead Big Green until 2012, winning eight Ivy League titles along the way. Magleby coached the Collegiate All-Americans for three years and then had a one-year stint in charge of the Men’s Eagles Sevens before moving into USA Rugby’s head office as National Sevens Director in 2013.

The 40-year-old is renowned for his analytical approach and also established Sylvan Advantage, the leading SportsCode distributor in North America. Magleby will take over at the Free Jacks in January 2019, with his USAR contract running to December of this year.
