Creevy Becomes Most Capped Argentina Captain

On Saturday in Salta Agustín Creevy wrote his name down in history. The flanker who converted to hooker became the most capped Argentine captain of all time. In leading his country against Australia he surpassed Lisandro Arbizu’s mark of 48 tests as skipper.

The 33-year-old has captained Argentina since 2014. He was chosen by Daniel Hourcade to lead his country, taking over from Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe. Since then he has gone on to earn 80 caps and defeat Australia and South Africa both home and away.

Creevy was the first captain of Los Jaguares. Under Raúl Pérez he led the team in the 2016 and 2017 Super Rugby seasons. The arrival of Mario Ledesma from Australia saw Pablo Matera named Jaguares skipper while Creevy remained in charge of Los Pumas.

In his second RWC he captained his country. Having been the understudy to Mario Ledesma at RWC 2011 he went on to take the team to the Semi Finals of RWC 2015. It was Argentina’s second appearance in the Semi Finals, following on from doing so under the leadership of Agustín Pichot in 2007.

Both Creevy and Pichot are in the top five list of matches as captain of Los Pumas. They are joined by Lisandro Arbizu, Hugo Porta, and Felipe Contepomi. Both Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe and Pedro Sporleder earned 20 caps as captain. They share 6th spot overall.
