Mitre 10 Cup – Week 8 Preview

Three results are already in as the Mitre 10 Cup works through the penultimate week of the regular season. Otago hosted Bay of Plenty in Dunedin on Wednesday. The home side took the 45-34 win meaning replacement lock Josh Larsen gets bragging rights over Tyler Ardron, the latter captaining the visitors on the blindside flank.

Both players will get a second crack on Sunday against different rivals. Larsen will start for Otago against Tasman, with Bay of Plenty still to name their team that travels to Invercargill to play Southland. The Stags will run out Tony Lamborn at No8 with Argentine halfback Nico Costa on the bench.

Auckland left it late but got the road win over Wellington on Thursday, final score 29-24. Evan Olmstead was back on the blindside flank for the winners with Mike Sosene-Feagai coming on as a replacement hooker. Auckland are now just one win away from clinching first place.
