Peru Overpower Costa Rica

In the second match of the Sudamérica 4 Naciones B Peru overpowered Costa Rica, winning 36-14. The result sees Costa Rica’s Los Guarias completing their participation in the competition with two losses.

It was Costa Rica’s second of as many matches, the previous match having been on Sunday against hosts Guatemala. The 18-12 defeat was the only match on day one of the tournament but it was supposed to be one of two.

The Sudamériano 4 Naciones B was reduced from four to three participants. Not participating are Venezuela due to the players having had their visas denied. This saw a reconfiguration of the tournament with two matches per team rather than three.

The remaining match will take place on Saturday. Going head-to-head will be Guatemala and Peru, both doing so after having obtained wins over Costa Rica. Peru’s win was by 22 points while Guatemala’s was by 6. Yet with Guatemala having three more rest days than Peru the team is certain to be well positioned to press for what would be an upset victory.

The tournament final will take place on Saturday at 10am local time at the Campos de La Nestlé in La Antigua, Guatemala.
