RFU Championship – Week 5 Preview

There are a couple new Americas players signed up for Greene King IPA Championship teams but Robbie Povey and Cam Dolan won’t be rushed into action in Week 5. Others are disabled list but eight North American internationals are set to play over the weekend, four each on Friday and Saturday.

Yorkshire Carnegie have had a rough start to their campaign. They’ll need to pull up their socks in a big way to get a win at St. Peter where the Jersey Reds are always a difficult proposition. Jake Ilnicki continues at tighthead prop with Dan Moor named among the reserves for Carnegie.

Canada flyhalf Shane O’Leary makes if five from five as he runs out for Nottingham against Doncaster on Saturday. The Knights have brought a decent team to Lady Bay with Eagles lock Nick Civetta trusted with winning possession at the set piece.

Ronnie McLean is up again for Richmond against Hartpury and another USA international center is named for London Irish, albeit on the bench. Bryce Campbell will have to wait to make an impact for the Exiles in their road match against Coventry.

The biggest game of the weekend sees Premiership aspirants Ealing Trailfinders hosting the undefeated Cornish Pirates at Vallis Way. A pair of Eagles will start for the home side with Ben Landry at lock and Andrew Durutalo on the flank. Canada’s Brett Beukeboom will be opposite Landry in the lineout as he looks to captain the Pirates to their 12th successive league victory.
