The Seattle Seawolves have re-signed player-coach Phil Mack for the coming Major League Rugby season but he won’t be the Head Coach. That position has gone to new signing Anton Moolman. The 48-year-old arrives from South Africa where he has been the Director of Rugby of the Western Province Academy. Seattle co-founder Adrian Balfour confirmed the news on the Rugby Wrap-Up with Matt McCarthy.
A former professional player with more than 50 caps as a midfielder with Boland Kavaliers in the Currie Cup, Moolman is highly respected in the South African rugby community having worked with numerous Springboks as an age-grade coach prior to launching the WP Academy in 2014.
Moolman has coached at Hamilton RFC in Cape Town, South Africa’s oldest club, for a decade. He has also worked closely with the staff of Western Province’s Super Rugby side, the Stormers. His task will be to replicate the winning season of the Seawolves, the Seattle team lifting the inaugural MLR Shield after beating Glendale in the Final in July.
