Central America and South America will come together on Sunday September 30 as the inaugural Sudamérica 4 Naciones ‘B’ begins in Guatemala City. Competing will be Costa Rica, Guatemala, Peru, and Venezuela.
The match schedule for the Sudamérica 4 Naciones ‘B’ has been confirmed. It sees hosts Guatemala facing Peru first up and Venezuela taking-on Costa Rica. All four teams will play their three matches over seven days with three rest days between matches.
Venezuela’s team roster has been named. It can be seen by clicking here.
The Venezuelans are to go into the tournament as favorites. This is based on historical results and Americas Rankings. At present Venezuela are ranked 13th in the Americas, Peru are 17th, Guatemala are 20th and Costa Rica are 22nd.
Changes in the Americas Rankings are certain with gains and falls entirely plausible for more countries than just the four involved.
Venezuela and Peru last met in 2017 in Lima. As part of the former South American B Championship Venezuela were 33-21 winners. A year earlier Venezuela were 33-8 winners in what was a RWC 2019 qualifying fixture. In 2015 Peru upset Venezuela, winning 24-10.
Guatemala won the former South American C Championship in 2015 and 2016. In 2017 Costa Rica were crowned champions after competing to an 8-8 draw with Guatemala on the final day. This meant the wins against Nicaragua and Panama were calculated to determine the final placements.
