Player Altercation With Spectator Follows Australia’s Loss to Argentina

A player altercation with a spectator followed Australia’s loss to Argentina this morning. Wallabies flanker Lukhan Tui was yelled at and shoved by a spectator following the completion of the Rugby Championship test match on the Gold Coast.

Australia fell to a 23-19 defeat against Argentina, the Wallabies first home defeat in 35 years against Los Pumas. It sees Australia’s Rugby Championship campaign have one win and there losses from four matches.

Today’s performance against Argentina was not the finest from Australia and an angry spectator went beyond acceptable behavior in confronting Lukhan Tui.

Footage following the match showed Tui involved in an alteration with the spectator. Prior to the incident the supporter is reported to have also pushed the younger sister of Tui.

It completed a horrific week for the Wallabies flanker. His stepfather passed away on Wednesday and now Head Coach Michael Cheika has said that Tui has asked for some time away from rugby. Cheika noted that:

“I get the discontent and you own that; words, abuse comes sometimes, that’s the way it is. You have to suck it up when you don’t play well and own that. He pushed the younger sister and Lukhan didn’t like that and that’s fair enough considering everything that’s happened to him this week. You shouldn’t be pushing a kid in the crowd.”
