RFU Championship – Round 3 Preview

Only five matches will be taking place this weekend in the third weekend of the Greene King IPA Championship. The sixth game – London Irish at Jersey Reds – has been rescheduled to November 3 due to a lack of hotel accommodations on the Channel Island. A number of events – a beer festival, a sailing regatta, and a pop music concert – all fall on this weekend and it’s the rugby that has had to miss out!

Starting this off on Friday evening is one match. London Scottish will head to Lady Bay where Shane O’Leary and Nottingham await. Both teams are in search of their first win of the season after back-to-back losses on the opening weekends.

Cornish Pirates head to Hartpury on Saturday with Brett Beukeboom leading the way from the second row. Matt Evans is once again named on the bench. Also on the bench is Justin Blanchet who travels with Bedford Blues to Coventry.

Nick Civetta is back in the Doncaster Knights starting lineup after a week off. He’ll be up against another USA international, veteran midfielder Ronnie McLean who continues in the No12 shirt for Richmond at the Athletic Ground.

Four North Americans will take the field at Vallis Way. Yorkshire Carnegie will have their Canucks with them for the trip to Ealing. Dan Moor starts on the wing with Jake Ilnicki named as a reserve. The Trailfinders will run out a pair of Eagles in the pack. Ben Landry is in the engine room with Andrew Durutalo starting at openside flanker.
