Uruguay XV Defeat Brazil in Training Match

The Uruguay XV defeated Brazil in a training match on Thursday. Played in São José dos Campos, the visitors were 41-36 winners. The match was the final hit-out before the Americas Pacific Challenge which takes place in Uruguay in October.

The match was not played under usual restrictions. As such substitutions were not limited to eight players. This saw a lot of free-flowing rugby with attack being there theme from both sides.

Although there were 77 points scored in the match o points were recorded from either side in the opening quarter. After 22 minutes the scoring became with the Uruguay XV crossing for a try from a scrum. Juan Diego Ormaechea’s score was quickly followed by another with Tomás Iniciarte giving the Uruguay XV a 12-0 lead.

Brazil opened their account in the 33rd minute. Daniel Sancery crossed for Os Tupis only for a second score by Ormaechea to give the Uruguay XV a 19-5 advantage. It would be the final score of the opening half.

In the second half Brazil caught the Uruguay XV off-guard. Two quick tries saw the scores standing at 17-19. At this stage the Uruguay XV began making regular replacements.

The lead would be extended via Ignacio Dotti. His try, though, would not give the Uruguay XV breathing space as another Daniel Sancery score, bring up his hat-trick made it 24-26.

63 minutes into the match and Uruguay scored again. This time they scored a penalty try, a score to put them ahead by nine points. Again, Brazil found a way to respond as they brought the scores back to 29-33, setting up a thrilling finish.

With five minutes remaining Leandro Leivas scored to give Uruguay a 40-29 lead. Brazil would respond three minutes later in the final scoring act of the match. With it the Uruguay XV won 40-36.
