Americas Rankings – August 31 2018

The Americas Rankings have been updated earlier than normal. This is based on the Americas Rugby Challenge having had a round of mid-week matches of international competition. The August 31 2018 edition sees movement in the rankings based on Colombia and Paraguay’s respective victories.

Paraguay easily defeated Guyana on Wednesday. Having lost by 86-7 Guyana fall two places in the Americas Rankings, dropping below Trinidad & Tobago as well as the Cayman Islands. Paraguay remain comfortably behind Chile though have closed the gap.

Colombia’s home 45-0 win over Mexico means Los Tucanes gain maximum points from the exchange of points. Colombia boost their rankings from 48.56 points to 49.00 while Mexico fall from 44.50 to 44.06.

Game two of the USA South Panthers’ Central European tour saw a mid-week victory over Austria. It was the second win on tour from as many matches with the USA South Panthers also defeating Hungary. No rankings points were on the line based on the USA South Panthers not being a test side.

Additional mid-week international activity saw Brazil playing host to the Uruguay XV on Thursday. Uruguay fielded a side close to being at full-strength yet played under the Uruguay XV name rather than as Los Teros. With it not being a capped international Americas Rankings points were not on the line.

International competition continues on Saturday. Colombia face Paraguay Guyana take-on Mexico. The Americas Rankings will be recalculated again following these fixtures.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
