Gastón Cortés Added to Argentina for Oceania Tour

Gastón Cortés has been added to the Argentina roster for the upcoming Oceania Tour. Los Pumas will face New Zealand and Australia in Nelson and the Gold Coast in rounds three and four of the Rugby Championship.

For the tour Head Coach Mario Ledesma has added Leicester Tigers tighthead Gastón Cortés. Last capped in 2012, the 32-year-old has four caps for Argentina from 2011-2012.

Cortes played four times for Argentina in 2011 and 2012. He previously played over 100 games for Bristol Rugby between 2012 and 2018. He moved to England in 2012 to play for Bristol and has signed for the Leicester Tigers for the new season which starts on Friday.

During his time in England, Cortés made over 100 appearances for the Bristol Bears. Yet it was not only the Leicester Tigers who were taking note as Ledesma has called-up Cortés to replace Juan Figallo who returns to England after facing the Springboks in Durban and Mendoza.

Cortés is one of three modifications made by Ledesma. Also on his way back to Europe is Facundo Bosch who will be free to play this coming weekend for Agen. Bosch’s spot has gone to Julián Montoya who has recovered from injury.

Also back in the squad are center Matías Orlando, and no 8 Juan Manuel Leguizamón. The trio are to join the remainder of the roster in Buenos Aires for training on Tuesday and Wednesday. The roster depart for New Zealand on Thursday.
