Justin Allen will not be playing for the Houston SaberCats in the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The towering second row has signed with English club Rotherham Titans for the 2018-19 season. Titans will play in National One after being relegated from the RFU Championship at the end of last season.
At 6’10” (2.08m) the 23-year-old is hard to miss on the rugby pitch. He played a significant role for the SaberCats during their preseason but managed only one start in the regular season and missed the second half of the campaign entirely. He joins tighthead prop Paul Mullen, now at Newcastle Falcons, and team captain Kyle Sumsion on the departures list. Sumsion will take up a coaching position with West Point Military Academy.
Born in Ireland, Allen has previously spent time in the English National divisions with Chinnor. He also represented the USA at age-grade level, qualifying through his American mother. At Rotherham he could form a second row partnership with Canadian import Conor Keys. Other international forwards at the club are Chilean flanker Anton Petrowitsch and a trio of Germany caps – Antony Dickinson, Mark Fairhurst, and Luis Ball.
