Americas players Rodrigo Capó Ortega and Benjamín Urdapilleta scared for Castres in the club’s season opening victory over Montpellier. The Uruguayan scored a try while the Argentine set-up Scott Spedding in what was a 25-20 victory.
The fixture was a repeat of the 2018 Final, a match won by Castres at the Stade de France. Both Capó Ortega and Urdapilleta were back from the final to start in the season opener. This time around they were joined by Canadian Taylor Paris who played on the right wing.
All three Americas players are projects for RWC 2019. Paris is expected to feature heavily for Canada in November’s Repechage tournament in Marseille.
Urdapilleta kicked four goals in the win over Montpellier, doing so with two conversions and two penalties. He is commonly considered among Argentina’s best fly halves. He joins Patricio Fernández (Clermont), Ignacio Mieres (Agen), and Nicolás Sánchez (Stade Français) as Los Pumas’ 10’s playing in the Top 14.
