Americas Rankings – August 26 2018

The Americas Rankings have been updated following completed of international competition this weekend. The August 26 2018 edition sees movement in the rankings with Argentina, Paraguay, Panama, and Colombia all having won matches.

In Mendoza Argentina won for the first time in 2018. Los Pumas’ 32-19 victory over South Africa was the largest by the South Americans in Rugby Championship history. The result is that Argentina move above Fiji into 9th in the World Rankings. The updated ranking is now 77.02, a rise from 75.55 points.

Panama’s 51-26 home victory over El Salvador saw them winning the 2018 Centroamericano. It also sees Panama rising in the Americas Rankings from 28.89 points to 29.73. This represents a rise to 33rd in the Americas. El Salvador fall from 27.51 to 26.67 points. It increases the gap between Honduras and El Salvador.

In game one of the inaugural Americas Rugby Challenge Paraguay defeated Mexico 45-36. The match was 7th vs 12 in the Americas playing in neutral Colombia. The result sees Mexico falling from 45.12 to 44.50 points. Paraguay rise from 48.89 to 49.51 points.

Also gaining points is Colombia. Los Tucanes 71-7 victory over Guyana sees Colombia rising from 47.68 to 48.56 points. Guyana fall from 46.56 to 45.68. Neither side change position in the Americas Rankings though this may change for both in remaining tournament matches.

International competition will continue on Wednesday. Colombia face Mexico and Paraguay take-on Guyana. The Americas Rankings will be recalculated following these fixtures.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
