Historic First Naming of Belize 7’s Team

In a historic first Belize has named a national 7’s team. Head Coach Brendan Meaney has named a side for Belize’s debut on the international stage. The team will play against southern and western neighbors Guatemala.

The naming marks an important step forward for Rugby Belize. Over time the union is seeking to join Rugby Americas North and eventually play in regional competition.

Rugby Belize has a vision to Rugby Americas North rather than Sudamérica Rugby. This is the case despite the Central American Republics of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and  Panama all being involved in Sudamérica Rugby.

Mexico is a Rugby Americas North member, and a rare Spanish speaking country in the entity. With the English language being favored by Belize the vision is explained.
