Americas Rankings – August 19 2018

Calculations have been made following the completion of international competition this weekend. The August 19 2018 Americas Rankings see El Salvador gaining points at the expense of Honduras.

Taking to the field on Friday was Canada. The North Americans did so as the Canada Selects, the national ‘next of XV’. They took on Clermont, a French club. With neither side being the test team Americas Rankings points were not on the line.

Round One of the Rugby Championship saw Argentina on the road to South Africa. The Springboks’ 34-21 victory saw them opening their campaign with a bonus point victory. Despite the loss Argentina has not lost any rankings points. As such the country remains 1st in the Americas and 10th in the World Rankings.

In the second match from Saturday El Salvador hosted Honduras. The teams entered the match ranked 39th and 38th in the Americas Rankings respectively. Los Torogoces’ 27-24 victory sees El Salvador improving from 26.63 points to 27.51.

Honduras’ updated Americas Ranking is 27.55 points. This marks a fall from 28.43 points but sees Honduras just remaining ahead of El Salvador. Los Torogoces face Panama away next weekend. A win will see Honduras falling to bottom spot in the Americas Rankings.

Argentina are to also play again next weekend. Los Pumas are to have home advantage against South Africa in Mendoza. It is to be the third time the teams have played at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas. The prior occasions were in 2012 and 2013.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
