Uruguay XV Down Córdoba

The Uruguay XV downed Argentine province Córdoba on Wednesday evening, winning 40-36 in Argentina. In a hotly contested match the visitors came from behind the complete a four point victory at Córdoba Athletic club.

Córdoba opened the match with a bang. Just for minutes into the match saw Los Dogos leading 7-0. Scoring was left winger Lucas Busdrago. The Uruguay XV hit-back in the 10th minute with center Tomás Iniciarte making it a 7-5 scoreline.

The back-and-forward opening to the match continued immediately. In the 12th minute Los Dogos had their second try. Diving over was fullback Guillermo Albrisi with Stefano Ambrosio adding the extras.

A third try for the home side came in the 26th minute. It was another scored by the backs with inside center Mauricio Brunetto crossing. Ambrosio converted to give Córdoba a 19-5 lead.

Five minutes later saw the Uruguay XV scoring their second try. Doing so was winger Leandro Leivas. Fullback Manuel Blengio converted to end the scoring for the opening half. With it Córdoba led the Uruguay XV 19-12.

In the second half Córdoba cancelled out Leivas’ score. Replacement Leonel Oviedo went over in the 47th minute to extend Los Dogos lead.

Veteran second-rower Diego Magno and Puma German Schulz then traded tries before the Uruguayans took control. Tries in the 59th, 25th and 30th minutes to replacements Guillermo Pujadas,Juan Rombys and Facundo Gattás.

Four conversions from Andrés de León saw the Uruguay XV leading Córdoba 40-31 with 10 minutes left to play. Los Dogos managed to score a late try through replacement Mauro Palacios. They then had a change to win after Ignacio Dotti saw yellow carded in the final minute. Ultimately, the Uruguay XV held on for a narrow victory.
