Hourcade Joins Sudamérica Rugby Staff

Daniel Hourcade has joined the Sudamérica Rugby Staff. The former Head Coach of Argentina is to take up a position with the regional governing body to run a High Performance program. The new role comes less than two months after he stood-down as Head Coach of Los Pumas.

As Head Coach of Argentina, Hourcade took Los Pumas to an historic win over South Africa. The win in Durban during the 2015 Rugby Championship was followed by a win over the same opposition in 2016 in Salta. He also recorded a win over Australia in Mendoza and took Los Pumas to the Semi Finals of RWC 2015.

Prior to becoming Head Coach of Argentina Hourcade headed Argentina’s domestic academy. This notably involved him being in charge of the Pampas XV, the former semi-professional team which was replaced by Los Jaguares for Super Rugby.

With professional rugby now a reality in South America, Sudamérica Rugby is looking to Hourcade to direct high performance activities in the region. This is to see him planning and structuring rugby for the 16 Sudamérica Rugby members.

Prior experience for Hourcade includes coaching Argentina U21’s, Los Pumas 7’s, and the Argentina XV. He also has international experience, working his Portugal 7’s and the test side which went to RWC 2007 in France.

Hourcade is straight into his new role. Beginning immediately, Hourcade has a meeting today in Brazil and will visit Chile on Wednesday, and Paraguay on Monday August 20. These initial meetings are designed for Hourcade to fully understand the requirements of these countries.
