Collegiate All-American shortlist trimmed to 36 players

A shortlist of 36 players have been named to compete for Collegiate All-American honors in a selection camp and trial match against the Glendale Raptors. The one-off match will take place on Friday, August 17, at Infinity Park. 1st and 2nd team honors will be handed out following the completion of the match.

Included are two players who have already represented the Eagles in test rugby – Life front rower Alex Maughan and Lindenwood wing Deion Mikesell. Those two schools provide the largest number of players with Life contributing ten including USA Select XV rep Chance Wenglewski, while Lindenwood have a USA Select of their own in outside back Mitch Wilson, one of six Lions selected.

Other notables are UCal Golden Bears prop Kevin Sullivan, Eagles long-list No8 Maciu Koroi from Life, and Arizona fullback Kyle Rogers who had a taste of Major League Rugby this season with the San Diego Legion. The backs feature several Junior All-American selections such as flyhalf Duncan van Schalkwyk from Life and Lindenwood fullback Cristian Rodriguez.

Head coach James Willocks has already whittled the list down from 83 hopefuls. The announcement of the 1st Team Collegiate All-Americans will by broadcast live on Facebook following Friday’s match.
