Colombia Win Gold at CAC Games

Colombia won the Gold Medals at the CAC Games, downing neighbors Venezuela convincingly in the tournament final. With it Colombia’s Women’s 7’s side are the official Central American and Caribbean Champions.

The 20-0 victory rounded off a highly successful tournament for Las Tucanes. Also among the medals were Venezuela and Mexico, who claimed Silver and Bronze respectively.

Las Tucanes were the best of six competing countries in Barranquilla. They were up against French Guyana, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela.

On Day One Las Tucanes completed wins over Jamaica, Guatemala, and Mexico. Venezuela also impressed on Day One, similarly going undefeated.

Their route to the Gold Medal Final today saw both countries playing two prior matches. Colombia started with a low-scoring 5-5 draw against French Guyana while Venezuela defeated Jamaica 19-10. Their second match was against one-another with Colombia winning 19-12.

In the Gold Medal Final Colombia directed traffic to come out 20-0 winners. Prior to that Jamaica had completed a 41-5 win over Guatemala to claim 5th place while Mexico defeated French Guyana 12-5 to win Bronze.
