Southland With Argentina, USA Players for Mitre 10 Cup

New Zealand’s southern most province, Southland has confirmed its player roster for this year’s domestic championship. Included in the squad are players with connections to Argentina, and the USA Players – one of each will feature for Southland in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Southland have added Argentine scrum-half Nico Costa and USA Eagles flanker Tony Lamborn. The former joins having played last year for Auckland while Lamborn is back in the Mitre 10 Cup after having played in the inaugural Major League Rugby season for the San Diego Legion.

Costa makes the move from New Zealand’s largest city, in the north to the deep south. Lamborn, meanwhile completes the move weeks ahead of the season opener against Hawke’s Bay, the same team he played for previously including winning the 2015 MVP award. This was followed by a call-up to the Hurricanes roster for Super Rugby.

Lamborn made 39 appearances for Hawke’s Bay and 4 for the Hurricanes. For the USA he has 16 test caps and is well placed to be among Gary Gold’s roster for the November Internationals in addition to RWC 2019.

The 27-year-old last appeared for the Eagles in March. He did so by scoring a try in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) Grand Slam securing win over Uruguay in Montevideo. Overall he has an impressive return of 7 tries from 16 USA Eagles caps.
