Argentina defeat USA to finish 5th at RWC 7s

Argentina closed their Rugby World Cup Sevens account with two wins on Sunday, the second a dominant 33-7 victory over hosts USA. In doing so Los Pumas earned 5th place overall with the Eagles in 6th. Canada would see their tournament end in defeat to finish in 12th spot.

After an emotional defeat to England in the Quarter Final the Eagles crushed Scotland but ran out of gas against a determined Argentina side. By halftime Los Pumas had already racked up 19 points through tries from Santiago Mare, Franco Sábato, and Matías Osadczuk.

The score would reach 33-0 thanks to a penalty try that sent Perry Baker to the bin, and another score for Marcos Moroni. Fans would at least be able to cheer for one USA score as Martin Iosefo crossed in stoppage time to prevent the whitewash.

Canada’s fuel tanks also ran dry against Wales. Pat Kay scored first but the Welsh responded through Cory Allen, Owen Jenkins, and Luke Morgan before the break. Isaac Kaay’s try just into the second half would be the last for Canada in San Francisco as Wales wrapped things up with tries for Will Talbot-Davies and Ben Roach, with Luke Treharne landing all five conversions.
