Juan Cruz Guillemaín has signed to play for Viadana in Italy. The move sees the professional career of the Argentine second-rower changing. He moves to the historic Italian club after previously playing in both Super Rugby and the Top 14.
The 25-year-old Guillemáin has signed for Viadana for the 2017-2018 season. The move happens after he was released from Los Jaguares this year. Having been in the inaugural roster, Guillemaín would have his Super Rugby career plagued by injury, limiting it to just 59 minutes of game time.
The depth of riches in the second-row position made opportunities hard to come by. Guillemaín was in competition with Ignacio Larrague and Benjamín Macome for consideration behind regulars Matías Alemanno, Tomás Lavanini, Guido Petti, and Marcos Kremer.
The 115kg (250lbs) and 1.97m (6-6) Guillemaín was on the Stade Français roster from 2012-2015. He would return to Argentina following making his test debut under Daniel Hourcade against Scotland in November 2014. Despite starting the match would be his one and only cap.
Additional honors for Guillemaín include playing in World Rugby’s 2011 and 2012 Junior World Championships. He would also captain Los Pumitas in the 2012 South American Junior Championship.
At senior level Guillemaín played for the Argentina XV in 2012, 2016 and 2017. He would play in the Americas Pacific Challenge, Americas Rugby Championship, South American Championship and the Nations Cup.
