Pumas name Rugby World Cup Sevens side

Argentina have confirmed their squad for this weekend’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco. Included are four members of the 2016 Rio Olympic team with the rest a young side comprised of some of the nation’s most promising athletes..

Gaston Revol continues as captain with fellow Olympians Santiago Álvarez, Germán Schulz, and Franco Sábato all certain to feature heavily. 2016-17 Rookie of the Year Matias Osadczuk is another key name along with the versatile playmaker Lautaro Bazan Velez.

Added to the group is Pumitas speedster Mateo Carreras who joins fresh off the World Rugby u20 Championship tournament. Missing out are HSBC Sevens Series veterans Renzo Barbier, Felipe del Mestre, and Severiano Escobio.

Los Pumas enter the tournament as the 7th-ranked side and will enjoy a bye in the opening round. They will play the winner of Canada vs Papua New Guinea on Friday evening. Should they advance to the Quarter Finals they will face one of Fiji, Japan, or Uruguay.
