Jaguares Fall to Sharks to Confirm Away Play-Off vs Lions

Los Jaguares Fell to the Sharks to Confirm an away Play-Off vs the Lions. The 2018 Quarter Finals will take place next weekend with the Sharks’ win seeing them into the play-off’s against the Crusaders.

Today’s 20-10 defeat means Mario Ledesma’s team will remain in South Africa to prepare for the Quarter Final in Johannesburg. The team will be fresh based on Ledesma having made 10 changes for today’s fixture, effectively not utilizing those who could be rested.

The Sharks’ win was a display of a team in charge. With a solid platform from the pack, the Sharks were able to go into half time leading 13-3 and convert it into a ten-point victory on full time.

Rain impacted proceedings and it was the Sharks who adjusted best to the conditions. Two early penalties from fly half Robert du Preez  had the home side leading 6-0 within 15 minutes of play.

His opposite, Joaquín Díaz Bonilla was would make it a 6-3 scoreline before the Sharks scored the game’s opening try. Smart work from hooker Akker van der Merwe saw the Sharks over and with the  conversion they were well placed at the interval.

Twelve minutes into the second half and the Sharks had a 17 point lead. Touching down was winger Kobus van Wyk, doing so after a break from inside center Andre Esterhuizen.

Los Jaguares would cancel it out with a try of their own. In the only other score of the second half, wingers Bautista Delguy and Sebastián Cancelliere combined with the latter scoring.

Next weekend will see both the Sharks and Jaguares playing again. The Sharks travel to New Zealand to face the Crusaders in Christchurch while Los Jaguares take-on the Lions at Ellis Park.
