Manoa Joins Scully at Cardiff Blues

Samu Manoa will joins USA captain Blaine Scully at the Cardiff Blues. The Welsh region has today confirmed the arrival of the USA Enforcer, completing his move from French club Toulon.

Aged 33, Manoa will play for his third European club and do so in his third European league. In April 2011 Manoa signed to play for the Northampton Saints in the English Premiership, completing the move from his native California.

His time at the Northampton Saints was memorable as he won the English Premiership with the club. He was highly popular with the locals, underlined by him winning the Northampton Saints Supporters’ Player of the Year for the 2012-13 Premiership season.

Following RWC 2015 Manoa made the move to France. At Toulon he went on to play more than 50 matches but now his career will continue at the UK, in the Welsh capital.

Capable of playing second-row, flanker and no 8, Manoa is among rugby’s most ferocious defenders. Thus far he has 21 caps for the USA, including playing in all four if the USA’s matches at RWC 2015 in England.

Manoa captained his country against South Africa in their pool match in London. Three years on he is to join forces with Blaine Scully at the Cardiff Blues. Scully has been the national captain since the retirement of Chris Wyles from international duty.
