Barcelona Sign Former Pumas Hooker

Barcelona rugby have signed former Pumas Hooker Martín García Veiga. The 32-year-old returns to the Spanish club from Perpignan and will play in the upcoming División de Honor season.

García Veiga joined Perpignan as a medical joker in March. His stay was cut short though injury which meant he missed out on the club’s successful end of season form as the club won promotion from the Pro D2 back to the Top 14.

For García Veiga the move to Barcelona is a return. In addition to having played for Perpignan he also has experience playing professional rugby for Jersey, Vannes and Barcelona.

At international level García Veiga has six test caps. His debut was in 2012 against Chile while his most recent appearance was the following year against Uruguay. He started for Argentina in the two home tests against England in June 2013.

His three test caps in June 2013 were in the starting line-up, playing under Santiago Phelan. He would not play a test during the Daniel Hourcade regime. In 2012 he played his three other tests and scored a try against Uruguay in his debut appearance.
