Harry Jones Captains Canada at 2018 RWC 7’s

Harry Jones will captain Canada at the 2018 RWC 7’s in San Francisco. The 28-year-old has been named by Head Coach Damian McGrath to lead the 12-man roster in the upcoming global tournament.

The veteran from North Vancouver has over 100 tries to his name on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and acted as captain of his country following the retirement of John Moonlight. For Jones San Francisco 2018 marks his third World Cup. Prior duty saw him playing at the 2013 RWC 7’s in Moscow and the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England and Wales.

Jones is to be joined by four other returning players from Moscow 2013 – Justin Douglas, Mike Fuailefau, Lucas Hammond, and Nate Hirayama.

There will be no shortage of talent on the roster. In addition to having five players back from Moscow 2013, Canada also has big name players such as the seasoned Connor Braid and the highly recognizable Admir Cejanovic. Both are to make their RWC 7’s debuts in San Francisco as are Andrew Coe, Isaac Kay, Pat Kay, Luke McCloskey, and Matt Mullins.

The well-balances roster has star power in the form of Hirayama and Douglas. The former was the 2017-2018 Series point scoring leader while the latter scored 35 tries in 10 tournaments and won the Impact Player for the series.

The 2018 RWC 7’s will involve 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams from around the world. Match days are to be on July 20, 21, and 22. Canada’s tournament is to get underway against Papua New Guinea with the winner advancing to face Argentina in the Round-of-16.
