Brazil is to tour Georgia, playing matches in the former Soviet Republic on July 28 and August 03. The matches are to be a part of the Rugby Summer Cup 2018, a series involving the Georgia XV, Racing 92, Brazil and the Argentina XV.
For Brazil the Rugby Summer Cup 2018 is to be the annual tour for os Tupis. It has been added to their calendar following confirmation of a home international against the Maori All Blacks in November.
In November 2017 Brazil toured Europe in November, playing test matches against Belgium, Germany, and Spain.
The 2018 tour will be see two matches taking place at Lokomotive Stadium in Tbilisi, Georgia. The first of these will be against French Top 14 side Racing 92 on July 28 and the second against Georgia XV (Georgia ‘A’) on August 03.
The tour is the latest chapter in the evolving status of Brazil as an emerging country. In recent years Os Tupis have beaten the Argentina XV, Canada, and the USA. They have proven to be formidable opposition at home in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC).
Brazil has also impressed against European countries. Wins have been recorded against Belgium and Portugal in 2018 and 2017 respectively.
For the Georgia XV the Rugby Summer Cup is preparation for potential athletes ahead of RWC 2019. The Lelos are to play in their 5th consecutive Rugby World Cup and are looking to write further history after recording two wins in RWC 2015, downing Namibia and Tonga.
