Rodrigo Capó Ortega Playing On With Castres Until June 2019

Rodrigo Capó Ortega is to continue playing on with Castres until June 2019. His new contract with the 2018 Top 14 Champions sees him adding to his remarkable time at the club which dates back to 2002.

The 37-year-old captained Castres to the French championship title last month, securing his second Top 14 title with the club. It saw an Uruguayan finishing off a truly remarkable season both for club and country.

In addition to making history by having an Uruguayan lift the Bouclier de Brennus he also saw played in Uruguay’s series win over Canada which saw Los Teros qualifying for RWC 2019. He picked up his 41st test cap in the home win which sealed Uruguay’s place in the Japan hosted RWC.

Rodrigo Capó Ortega commented on El Show Del Rugby: “it has been two weeks since I signed an extension with Castres for an additional season, until June 2019. I hope that it is not my last one”.

For Uruguay the news is highly welcoming. It sees the country’s highest-profile player now in line to play in RWC 2019. It would mean a second RWC tournament for Capó Ortega who amazingly played in RWC 2003 in Australia.

Commenting on the possibility of playing in Japan 2019 he told El Show del Rugby “from here there is one year until the World Cup. I would love to be able to play in it with Uruguay, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself”.

Capó Ortega turns 38 in December. He will do so while playing his 17th season for Castres. He has amassed more than 380 appearances across all competitions for the club. He may well pass the mark of 400 matches this coming season.
