Full Match Video – Canada vs Scotland

Canada’s first of three home 2018 June Internationals was against Scotland. Playing at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton the hosts were outplayed with Scotland running in seven tries.

Despite a slow start Scotland was the better side throughout, controlling possession to have few problems in the fixture. For the Scots is was their first of a three match tour of the Americas. Game two saw Scotland playing against the USA in Houston while the tour concluded away to Argentina in Resistencia.

A week after hosting Scotland Canada took on Russia in Ottawa. The match saw the two largest countries going head-to-head in an unlikely battle which saw Russia being the one of the two already secured of playing in RWC 2019.

Canada’s involvement at RWC 2019 will be determined in November. Canada will be joined by three others at a special global repechage tournament in France. Africa 2, the Play-Off Winner runner-up and the Cross-Regional Play-Off winner are to compete against Canada for the final spot in RWC 2019.

The country which qualifies will join Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, and Africa 1 (likely Namibia) in Pool B. The pool matches for the successful qualifier will begin in Fukuoka against Italy on September 26 2019 and end in Kamaichi on October 13 against Africa 1.

Canada’s June Internationals marked the final stage of capped competition before the Repechage tournament. All three opponents were teams to have already qualified for Japan 2019.
