Guatemala claimed victory over El Salvador on Sunday, winning 48-22 at the Estadio Parque Erick Barrondo. The fixture was a warm-up match for Los Jaguares who are to host the Sudamerica 4 Naciones B this year.
The rebranded competition is the new South American B Championship with Guatemala being joined by Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela. Guatemala and Costa Rica earned the right to participate in the competition due to results from the 2017 South American C Championship
Results from 2017 also saw Colombia promoted to the Sudamericano 6 Naciones A where they joined the Argentina XV, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and the Uruguay XV in the historic competition which was won by Brazil last month.
With Guatemala and Costa Rica promoted the two vacancies from the Sudamericano 4 Naciones C tournament are going to El Salvador and Honduras. El Salvador return after missing out on competing in 2017 while Honduras will make an historic appearance, following on from southern neighbors Nicaragua who debuted in 2017.
The Sudamericano 4 Naciones C is set to feature El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Though if Ecuador are reinstated by Sudamerica Rugby then the competition would become a five nations tournament.
