Canada vs USA – Match Highlights

In the second of two matches between Canada and the USA for 2018, the Eagles impressed. Taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday the visitors from the USA were able to continue their superiority over the Canadians in recent years.

The 42-17 result was Canada’s largest ever home loss against the USA. Earlier in the year the Eagles won 29-10 in Sacramento, California as part of the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). In 2017 the USA won the ARC clash 51-27 in Burnaby as well as the ARC qualifier in San Diego by 52-16. Canada’s home RWC qualifier in Hamilton, Ontario resulted in a 28-28 draw.

The draw in Hamilton is Canada’s best result against the USA since 2013. Since Canada’s 13-11 win in Toronto the Eagles have won seven and competed to one draw. Prior to the 2013 result Canada had won 10 of the previous 11 matches dating back to 2006.

Saturday’s win for the Eagles in Halifax showcased powerful running from Samu Manoa and Paul Lasike. It was complemented by AJ MacGinty’s decision making, breaks from the outside backs and a hat-trick from no 8 Cam Dolan.

The win for the USA maintains the team’s unbeaten streak in 2008. All eight matches thus far have seen the Eagles coming out as winners. For the June Internationals the USA went 3-0 while Canada were 0-3.
