Scotland have arrived in Argentina with a reduced player roster. Head Coach Gregor Townsend has released five players from the squad that played against Canada and the USA in North America.
The 28-man Scotland roster is heavily based on players from the country’s two professional teams – Edinburgh and the Glasgow Warriors. Of the forwards only David Denton does not play his rugby in Scotland. The Zimbabwean is a new recruit at the Leicester Tigers.
Of the backs four players play outside of Scotland. Scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne has moved to Llanelli, Wales for the new season while Chris Harris, James Lang, and Byron McGuigan all play in England.
Stuart McInally will captain Scotland against Argentina in Resistencia on Saturday. He will be looking to end the 3 match tour with a 2-1 record. Scotland defeated Canada in Edmonton first up before falling against the USA in Houston this past Saturday.
Argentina are coming off a 2-0 series defeat at home against Wales. The visitors from western Britain were far better than Los Pumas, winning cleanly in both San Juan and in Santa Fé. The results led to Daniel Hourcade quitting as Head Coach. His final test in charge is this weekend’s game against Scotland.
