Americas Rankings – June 17 2018

With the completion of international competition this weekend it is time to update the Americas Rankings. The June 17 2018 edition sees results in both North and South American impacting the points of countries from the Western Hemisphere.

The USA Eagles’ magnificent 30-29 win over Scotland sees the teams exchanging 2.00 rankings points in the World Rankings. It is insufficient to change the USA’s World Ranking of 15th and also the Americas Rankings of 2nd. Scotland have fallen from 6th to 7th and may drop further next weekend.

Also winning this weekend was Trinidad & Tobago. The southern Caribbean country completed a 34-33 win over the USA South Panthers. The victory has now implications on the Americas Rankings due to the USA South Panthers not being a test team.

In the Canadian capital Canada were outperformed by Russia, losing 43-20. Russia’s historic first-ever win over Canada sees the teams exchanging 1.78 rankings points. With it Canada fall further behind Uruguay to remain 4th in the Americas. In the World Rankings the Canadians fall one spot below Hong Kong to now be 22nd.

Argentina’s catastrophic performance against Wales in Santa Fé saw the visitors claiming maximum points. The 30-12 scoreline saw Wales winning with ease and resulted in Daniel Hourcade stepping-down as Head Coach. Argentina remain first in the Americas but are now further behind Fiji in the World Rankings.

The Americas Rankings will be updated again next Sunday. There will be three test matches taking place. Canada host the USA in Halifax, the Cayman Islands host Trinidad & Tobago while Argentina will be looking to end the Daniel Hourcade era with a win over Scotland.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
