Brive Sign Argentine Olympian

Brive have signed Argentine Olympian Axel Muller. The Mendoza speedster joins the French club from rivals Oyonnax. The move will see Muller playing for a third French club since departing Argentina following the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

The 24-year-old joined Toulon in 2016 and after one season moved to Oyonnax. He was a regular for Oyonnax in the Top 14 this past season. With the club having been relegated to there Pro D2 he is one of a number of players moving on.

Muller’s new club will be Brive. The club joins Oyonnax in the Pro D2 for the 2018-2019 season. The pair were relegated with Perpignan and Grenoble earning promotion to replace them in the Top 14. Similar to his prior two French clubs Muller’s contract with Brive is a one-year-deal.

Prior to moving to play in France Muller was a fringe option for Los Pumas and Los Jaguares. He had not earned a test cap nor played Super Rugby though he had played for the Argentina XV. Both this and his involvement with Los Pumas 7’s mean his eligibility is captured by Argentina.

Yet despite being captured he is not considered for international duty due to Argentina’s player selection policy. He joins fellow 2016 Olympian Juan Imhoff in being a winger playing in France.

Muller’s first international representative duty for at the junior level. He played for Argentina at the 2013 U20’s – Junior World Championship. From there he was involved with Los Pumas 7’s for three years. This saw him playing 120 matches and scoring 43 tries.

Between the ages of 9 and 17 Muller lived in Phoenix, Arizona. There is was a High School decathlete and he also played American football.
