The Argentina XV played their best rugby of 2018, crushing the Fiji Warriors 75-15 in Montevideo on Wednesday. The result keeps the Fiji Warriors winless after two rounds of the Nations Cup.
The Argentina XV were in form control from start to finish. A staggering 11 tries were scored with the Fiji Warriors beaten in both the set-piece and in broken play.
Those involved for the Argentina XV are a fixture of youth and experience. For some it was a first taste of representative rugby at senior level. Others were looking to sharpen themselves ahead of possible involvement in the June Internationals against Wales and Scotland.
The Fiji Warriors are Fiji’s official ‘A’ side. In previous matches they have been far better against the Argentina XV. Wednesday’s severe loss was based on the respective strengths of the two sides in addition to match preparation with Felipe Contepomi using a vastly changed roster to that from Saturday against Emerging Italy.
Positive news for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas was the performance of Manuel Montero, and Matías Moroni. Both have missed all of Super Rugby in 2018. Gregorio del Prete, Joaquín Díaz Bonilla and Rodrigo Bruni were also players to impress.
