The World Rugby Nations Cup opened for 2018 on Saturday. In the first fixture the Argentina XV faced Emerging Italy at a rain-soaked Carrasco Polo club in Montevideo.
The fixture was far from being a classic. To the contrary the stop-start affair saw the Argentina XV having the better of play only to constantly make unforced errors.
In the end the Argentina XV won 19-8. The victory came late in the piece after Emerging Italy had taken an unlikely lead following an intercept try. The South Americans scored three tries in the match, one in the first half and two in the final minutes of the contest.
With an eye to Los Pumas few of the Argentina XV’s players put up their hands. Indeed the performance of the team and individuals was low. A far better performance will be required on Wednesday when the Argentina XV face the Fiji Warriors in their second Nations Cup match.
