Uruguay Name Powerful Roster for Nations Cup

Uruguay has named a powerful roster for the Nations Cup. Head Coach Esteban Meneses has selected a team capable of defending the title they won a year ago in Montevideo.

This year’s tournament returns to Uruguay but due to renovations at the Estadio Charrúa it is not being played in the capital. Instead it is taking place at the Parque Artigas de Las Piedras.

Meneses has named a 28-man roster for the tournament which opens on Saturday June 10 and will run until Sunday June 10. Uruguay will play against the Fiji Warriors, Emerging Italy and the Argentina XV. All three are the national ‘A’ sides of the countries with those involved all being captured.

Uruguay’s roster features professional players both from home and abroad. Only one of the 15 players contracted and training as professionals at home has not been included. Missing is Juan Manuel Cat while Mario Sagario is the other notable home-based player not involved.

From Europe there are three players included. All three play their rugby in France. They are Manuel Leindekar, Agustín Ormaechea, and Felipe Berchesi.
