Against the Odds Chile Win Gold

Against the odds Chile delivered in Cochabamba, Bolivia winning Gold. In doing so Los Cóndores 7’s made history by claiming gold at the Juegos Suramericanos. Uruguay and Argentina won Silver and Bronze respectively.

Chile’s road to Gold on Day Three saw Los Cóndores downing Brazil by an embarrassing 52-0. This result meant that Argentina needed to defeat Uruguay by 45 points to win Gold. However, Argentina not only failed to win by 45 but they also lost the match 36-20 against Uruguay.

These two results combined with Argentina and Chile having competed to a 12-12 draw yesterday meant Chile’s other wins saw them finishing in top spot.

Chile’s path to Gold includes wins over Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Argentina and Uruguay finished equal on 15 competition points with Uruguay claiming Silver ahead of Los Pumas 7’s. This outcome means that Uruguay joins Chile in qualifying for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Argentina had the task of playing while Santiago Gómez Cora’s Los Pumas 7’s roster are busy training in London ahead of this weekend’s HSBC Series at Twickenham Stadium. Additional players are also involved with both the Argentina XV and Los Pumas.

Yet the reduced player options did not stop Argentina from downing Bolivia 92-0. As impressive as the try a minute victory was it would matter not as Uruguay defeated Argentina by 16 points later on in the day.

Overall day three of the Men’s competition will be remembered for Argentina and Brazil’s shortfalls. While they settled for third and fourth. Chile and Uruguay both played very well to deserve their places as the top two in Cochabamba.
