2018 Juegos Suramericanos – Day One Results

Day one of the 2018 Juegos Suramericanos is in the record books. The opening day saw Bolivia officially joining the South American rugby community. Both Men’s and Women’s teams from the host nation competed for the first time in history.

For Bolivia it was a day of learning. The standards of their opponents were notably superior, a familiar trend that all have gone through.

On the flip side Argentina had the best day. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams from Argentina were undefeated. In the Men’s Chile was also undefeated, underlining their ranking as a team likely to finish with a medal.

Brazil’s Women’s 7’s had a strong opening day while Colombia and Peru contested a nail-bitter in which Las Tucanes escpated with a one point victory. It was the match of the day in the Women’s competition.

Aside from Colombia vs Peru and the 14-14 draw between Uruguay and Brazil Men’s, to open the action, no other match was genuinely competitive. Uruguay’s 26-17 win over Colombia featured Los Teros 7’s playing with five men.
