Super Rugby history was made on Friday. For the first time Los Jaguares defeated the Sharks. The win came after Los Jaguares had been beaten twice in both 2017 and 2016 by the Durban-based franchise.
The fixture was the final match before breaking for the June Internationals. Daniel Hourcade is set to announce his roster for the three home internationals in San Juan, Santa Fé and Resistencia. They are to be against Wales and Scotland.
For the matches Hourcade will be selecting strictly from Super Rugby. This means that the same players to have been playing for Los Jaguares are now to pull on the Los Pumas shirts and represent Argentina.
Hourcade is to have a group of players firing. Under Mario Ledesma the team is second in the South African Super Rugby conference. The team has six wins overall. Friday’s win over the Sharks followed a win from six days earlier against the Bulls.
Prior to the Bulls Los Jagures toured Oceania and defeated the Rebels in Melbourne, Brumbies in Canberra, Blues in Auckland and Chiefs in Rotorua. The wins have come despite the retirement of Juan Martín Hernández as well as injuries to captain Pablo Matera and vice-captain Joaquín Tuculet.
While Ledesma has had the same roster while Hourcade used throughout 2016 and 2017 he has turned them into a winning side. Part of this has included Ledesma going against prior selections of Hourcade. This continued in Friday’s win in Buenos Aires.
