2018 Juegos Suramericanos Preview

The 2018 Juegos Suramericanos are almost here. Taking place at 2500m altitude the Bolivian city of Cochabamba host the 2018 edition of the South American Games. This year’s Juegos Suramericanos begin on Friday with Rugby 7’s featuring from Sunday to Tuesday (May 27-29).

There are both Men’s and Women’s Rugby 7’s competitions to look forward to. In both categories there are to be seven competing countries. They are demonstrated in the following table according to their rankings for the tournament.

MEN’S WOMEN’S

Six countries have Men’s and Women’s teams competing. Those with only one are Chile and Peru. Chile has only sent a male side while Peru has only sent female.

The 2018 Juegos Suramericanos are to double as a qualifying tournament for the 2019 Pan American Games. Next year’s games will take place in Lima, Peru. Argentina (Men’s) and Peru (Women’s) are not competing for places in Lima as both are pre-qualified.

Favorites for Gold in the Men’s are Argentina. Los Pumas 7’s have a roster containing a combination of established and new players. Chile, Uruguay and Brazil are expected to be competing for Silver and Bronze with Chile the most likely to claim Silver.

In the Women’s it is altogether different. Favorites for Gold are Brazil. Argentina and Colombia are the countries likely to finish with Silver and Bronze respectively.
