O’Leary and Ealing win British & Irish Cup

Ealing Trailfinders are the 2018 British & Irish Cup Champions. The Greene King IPA Championship club brought the curtains down on their memorable season with a 22-7 win over Leinster ‘A’ in front of nearly 1,400 fans at Vallis Way on Saturday. It’s a first for Ealing and also a last as the Cup Competition will be scrapped next season with the Irish sides opting out.

Canadian international Shane O’Leary started at flyhalf for Ealing and played for the entire 80 minutes. While he was not the designated goal kicker for Trailfinders, he played a major role in the win with his tactical kicking keeping his forwards on the front foot and cross-kicks challenging the Leinster wingers.

It’s the last act for O’Leary in an Ealing jersey. He will move to Nottingham next season. Also departing is fellow Canadian international Djustice Sears-Duru, who will return to Canada for the time being to prepare for the June internationals. Joining the club for the 2018-19 season are two US Eagles – Andrew Durutalo and Ben Landry.
