Jamaica Defeat Barbados to Secure RAN Cup

Jamaica defeated Barbados this afternoon to secure the RAN Cup. The 37-29 victory away victory sees the Crocs making it a double after previously winning at home against Barbados last month.

The two victories mean Jamaica is the 2018 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Cup Champion. The RAN Cup is the second division of RAN behind the RAN Championship Division.

In winning the two match series Jamaica have also been promoted to the RAN Championship. Barbados will be joined in the 2019 RAN Cup by the bottom placed side of Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Trinidad & Tobago and the USA South Panthers.

Currently there is no promotion or relegation between the Cup and Trophy divisions. RAN has indicated that it, nonetheless, intends to include more countries in the 2019 competition.

There are plans for future editions of the Ran Trophy, the third division, to see the winner promoted to the RAN Cup. The 2018 RAN Trophy involves Curaçao, the Dominican Republic and Guadeloupe.

The 2018 RAN Men’s series continues next weekend. On Saturday May 19 Trinidad & Tobago will have home advantage against Bermuda in a RAN Championship match.
