Durutalo to end Eagles career in San Francisco

Andrew Durutalo was a notable absentee from the 30-man Eagles roster announced on Tuesday. As it turns out, he won’t be seen again in an Eagles XVs jersey. The 30-year-old back row forward has decided to end his international career to spend more time with his family and focus on his club career.

He may yet wear the stars and stripes before he steps away from the international arena completely. Durutalo hopes to end his Eagles career in the code that brought him notoriety by earning a spot on the roster for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

With his Worcester Warriors commitments now at an end and his Ealing Trailfinders contract not due to start until July, Durutalo played for the Samurai Sevens invitational side in England this past weekend and could now be drafted into the Eagles squad for the European leg of the 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series. The London and Paris tournaments take place on successive weekends starting on June 2.

Durutalo ends his Eagles XVs career with 22 test caps since making his debut in 2012. After a three year absence he broke into the squad in time to secure a spot as first choice flanker during the 2015 World Cup. His last cap and only test appearance in 2018 came as a replacement against Canada during the Americas Rugby Championship.
